Wentworth Rolls over UNE 6-0 in TCCC Soccer Action

Wentworth scored four second-half goals en route to an easy 6-0 TCCC win

Leopards extend their unbeaten streak to four with shutout

BOSTON, Mass. – Six different players tallied goals as the Wentworth men's soccer team used four second-half goals to cruise to a 6-0 win over the University of New England in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

Joe Carroll '08 (Lebanon, Conn.) got things rolling at 23:24 when he put in a free kick from midfielder Geoff Hackett '09 (Medfield, Mass.).  Chris Hartmann '08 (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) have the Leopards a 2-0 lead at 40:37 when he put in the rebound of a fmidfielder Ben Nasman '11 (Lenox, Mass.) shot which was initially saved.

The floodgates opened in the second half as Hackett scored on a free kick that hit the far post and bounced back in at 50:27.  Ben Hamlin '09 (Vernon, Conn.) gave Wentworth a 4-0 lead at 53:39 on a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.  Forward Dan Hester '08 (Winsted, Conn.) scored from forward Kyle Nasman '09 at 56:59, while forward Matt Martins '09 (Bristol, R.I.) closed out the scoring at 65:42 on a feed from Elliott Richmond '11 (Amherst, Mass.).

Joe Simon '08 (Pittsfield, Mass.) made three saves in 79:19 of action.  Classmate Brad Loew '08 (East Meadow, N.Y.) did not need to make a save in the final 10:41.  For the Nor'easters, Derek Poulin '10 (Scarborough, Maine) allowed five goals and made nine saves, while Matt Cribbin '08 (Madison, Conn.) allowed one goal and made four saves in 33:01 of work.  Wentworth outshot UNE, 31-9.

With the win, Wentworth (9-3-0, 7-2-0 TCCC), extends its unbeaten streak to four, with the last three wins coming by way of shutout.  The Leopards are at Mass. Maritime Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., for a non-league contest.  The Nor'easters (3-8-1, 2-6-1) host Anna Maria Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
