University of New England Athletics

Karen Bailey was one of the most accomplished student-athletes ever at the University of New England, participating in four different varsity sports during her time at UNE. She was considered a standout in women's basketball and softball, and additionally earned three varsity letters in women's soccer and one in women's volleyball.

On the basketball court, Bailey was a gifted passer and three-point shooter extraordinaire at a time when the three-point rule first came into effect, while scoring 7.6 points/game. Today, she ranks second in school history in career assists with 397 (4.1/game), fifth in three-point field goals with 180 (1.8/game), and third in three-point field goal percentage (.367). Among single-season marks in school history, her 5.8 assists/game in 1992-93 ranks second, and her three-point field goal percentage of .439 in 1990-91 ranks fourth (it was also the highest percentage that season in NAIA District 5). Bailey shares second for a pair of single-game records as well, in assists (11) and three-pointers (8).

On the softball diamond, Karen was a dominant pitcher and feared hitter. She was a two-time NAIA District 5 Player of the Year and NAIA District 5 Tournament Most Valuable Player in 1992.  Karen achieved All-New England status as a junior and was NAIA District 5 Rookie of the Year in 1990.
