2:37 pm: It's over! UNE has just won the 2010 TCCC Field Hockey Championship! The team runs out onto the field surrounding their goalie, and now runs over to the far sideline to thank their fans. What a moment!
2:33 pm: Timeout UNE... 1:39 to play. Crowd starts chanting for the visiting team... UNE, UNE, UNE! Nearing the program's first-ever TCCC field hockey title and a trip to the NCAA Championship -- a year removed from claiming the ECAC New England title.
2:29 pm: Goal UNE! Michelle Oswald gives the Nor'easters a three-goal lead, off a penalty corner from Hannah Tavella. And Michaela Franey has just been released from her card. Five minutes remain.
2:25 pm: 10 minutes remain. UNE coach Jane Hurt keeps reminding her team to stay calm.
2:20 pm: Big test for the Nor'easters now... Michaela Franey was just issued a yellow card. Out for seven minutes, and UNE will be a player down. Can they keep the hosts off the board?
2:15 pm: NEC is in the offensive zone for just the second time this half, as UNE is picking apart the Pilgrims' midfield/defense and controlling the action.
2:10 pm: UNE! UNE! NEC! NEC! The crowds are chanting back-and-forth as the teams come in for an NEC timeout. 20:42 left on the clock.
2:00 pm: The crowd applauds as an injured NEC player get lifted off the field into the trainer's cart.
1:55 pm: Goal UNE! Little bit of luck as Michaela Franey's shot attempt rattled up off the post and came down behind the NEC defense, bouncing off the back of one of the players and into the net.
1:50 pm: Second half about the start...
1:40 pm: Halftime. Whitney Tostenson, injured finger and all, has come up with several key fast break-stopping tackles. UNE still leads, 1-0.
1:35 pm: The NEC crowd has filled in nicely, as the entire far sideline is at least one fan deep leaning up against the fence. But the UNE crowd is right in the middle and are more loud and passionate.
1:30 pm: Goal UNE! Casey Clark with a nice move to her left, flipping her stick over and driving a shot off the defender's stick up over the goalie.
1:20 pm: First penalty corner of the game for UNE, which averages nearly 14 per game. Michaela Franey's shot deflects off the crossbar.
1:10 pm: It will be interesting to see if and how Bree Tupper, UNE's second leading scorer, impacts the game this time around. She was out with an injury when the teams met earlier in the season (Sept. 11).
1:00 pm: It's game time and the sun is out!
12:55 pm: Huge UNE crowd on the far sideline, out-numbering the home crowd at the moment.
12:45 pm: Fan bus just arrived... everyone is in their blue t-shirts. A little cloud cover in the sky, with some sun and blue skies trying to work their way in. Great day for a championship match!
Counting down to Saturday...
