Nor'easters clip Owls, 3-2, with run in 8th

Statistics

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of New England softball squad got past Keene State College by a 3-2 margin in eight innings on Tuesday (Mar. 13) in the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

Sydnee Bessler received a run of support in the top half of the extra frame and then shut down the Owls, in order, to secure the victory for the Nor'easters (2-4). Bessler totaled eight strikeouts against no walks to earn the complete-game win in the circle.

Trailing 1-0 after a Brittany Damota RBI-double in the KSC 3rd, an RBI-double by Alexis Kamsambelis in the UNE 4th tied things up. It was the second hit of the game for Kapsambelis, and Meg Harvey notched her second hit to start the 5th before scoring on a ball put in play by Sarah Lachapelle.

A sacrifice fly in the 6th brought Keene State (1-3) back even at 2-2.

With a runner placed on second base in the 8th, Kaitlin Carson dropped a sacrifice bunt down the third-base line and a throwing error towards first allowed Andrea Gosper to come around with the deciding tally.

Avery Alberghini had three hits for the Nor'easters.

Courtney Votto recorded the same for the Owls, who received eight strikeouts in a losing effort from Molly St. Germain.
