BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England Vice President of Student Affairs and Director of Athletics Jack McDonald today (Apr. 27) announced that Carly Gettler will become the new head women's soccer coach. Gettler replaces Heather Davis, who was promoted to UNE's Associate Director of Athletics, effective June 1.
Gettler comes to UNE after two years as assistant women's soccer coach at Randolph-Macon College [NCAA III] in Ashland, Virginia. While at Randolph-Macon, she also served as an elite girls soccer coach and director of marketing for the Richmond Strikers.
Gettler was head women's soccer coach at Husson University for three seasons (2012-2014), leading the Eagles to 26 victories and three North Atlantic Conference Championship semifinal-round appearances. Gettler's squads at Husson twice received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award and were recognized three times with the NSCAA Ethics Award.
Prior to her tenure at Husson, she was assistant soccer coach at Mount Holyoke College from 2010-2012.
McDonald is pleased to add her to the Nor'easters' coaching staff.
"The entire University of New England community welcomes Carly Gettler to lead our women's soccer program," said McDonald. "Carly's excellent experiences as an intercollegiate athlete, coach and administrator make her a very good successor to Heather Davis, who has moved up to become an athletics administrator here at UNE. I would like to thank the members of our search committee who selected Carly from a highly-qualified group of candidates after a comprehensive national search.
A 2006 graduate of the University of Richmond [NCAA I], Gettler received a bachelor's degree in leadership studies and studio art. She was a member of a Spiders' squad that advanced to the NCAA Division I Sweet 16 (2002). Gettler went on to attain a master of science degree in exercise science and sports studies at Smith College.
Gettler holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma, an Advanced National Diploma, a National Diploma and a Goalkeeping Level I Diploma. She is a graduate of the inaugural NSCAA 30 Under 30 Program.
Gettler is looking forward to the opportunity to lead the Nor'easters' women's soccer program.
"I am honored and excited to have been selected as the next UNE women's soccer coach," Gettler commented. "I have admired Coach Davis' team for years and am looking forward to building on the strong foundations she has established within the UNE program. I would like to thank Heather Davis, the search committee, Jack McDonald, and the UNE student-athletes for their support throughout the search process, and I cannot wait to start working with them. I would also like to thank Jay Howell and my colleagues at Randolph-Macon College and the Richmond Strikers for two-plus years of amazing growth and development."
Gettler takes over a program that has a .638 winning percentage (104-56-13) over the past nine seasons. Under Davis' direction, the Nor'easters made two trips to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship final round.
