Nor'easters rebound from early deficit to pull away from Keene State, 10-1

LEESBURG, Fla. -- Trailing 1-0 after the 1st inning, the University of New England scored in each of the next four frames to defeat Keene State College, 10-1 (5 innings), in softball action Wednesday morning (Mar. 15) at the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

Caty Flagg and Caroline Schoenbucher both recorded two-RBI singles in the 2nd to give the Nor'easters (2-3) the advantage, and another two-RBI single by Sydney Helmbrecht in the 3rd padded the cushion to 7-1.

Meanwhile, Sophia Burnham finished off a three-hit pitching performance to earn the win in the circle for UNE.

Flagg went 3-for-4 in the contest with three runs batted in, and Helmbrecht was 2-for-2 at the dish. Avery Alberghini, Andrea Gosper, and Lauren Gerhard each scored twice. Burnham, Alexis Kapsambelis, and Sydnee Bessler drove in the other three runs.

Summer Cavanaugh struck out four and gave up five earned runs in the loss for the Owls (2-5).

Keene State got its run on two hits during the initial stanza, as Jenny Galavotti plated Kayla Votto.
