Box ScoreCLERMONT, Fla. -- Erica Merullo laced a one-out triple to knock in a pair and tie things up, and Erica Quinones followed with a double, as Trinity College (Conn.) rallied from a two-run deficit in the top of the 7th to clip the University of New England by a 6-4 margin on Monday (Mar. 14) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
Merullo, Courtney Erickson, and Nicole Towner each had two hits for the Bantams (2-2), while Erickson matched Merullo with two RBI. Elizabeth McQuaid scored twice.
Cassia Armstrong kept the Nor'easters off the board through four frames while Trinity established a 2-0 cushion, though UNE put its first two on and left the bases loaded in the 4th. Big Blue again stranded three in the 5th versus Erickson, but not until putting two across to tie the game.
Armstrong re-entered for the 6th but was also tagged for two runs, as UNE's
Lauren Jones put a one-out single into center to make it 4-2 before the Bantams came back.
Jones and
Amanda Vallante recorded two hits apiece for the Nor'easters, and
Caroline Schoenbucher touched the plate twice.
Katelyn Austin struck out three over the initial six innings to settle with a no-decision;
Sophia Burnham took the setback.
