BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The 'Nor'easter Neighbors' program took to the road Sunday (Nov. 22) as nearly 40 University of New England student-athletes headed to the Brothers of Christian Instruction Spiritual Center in Alfred to assemble food boxes to be distributed for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

According to Trevor Pietila, program director for York County Shelter Programs Food Pantry, more than 1,100 food boxes were assembled in less than two hours.

"Today was a great opportunity to give back to the local community while representing UNE Athletics," said men's lacrosse player Phil Young. "It was nice to see our athletes come together to help make Thanksgiving that much more special for everyone involved."

Samantha Hanley, a member of the women's swimming team added, "knowing that UNE Athletics was part of giving families a Thanksgiving meal is something that we are all so proud to be a part of. It was a great experience seeing athletes from all different sports come together for such a great cause."
