ResultsWESTFIELD, Mass. -- In what could be one of the most historic wins in the existence of the University of New England women's cross country program, the Nor'easters topped a field of 39 teams to take the title at the 20th annual James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday (Oct. 10).
The Nor'easters posted a team score of 72 to narrowly edge Williams College by a point. Williams finished third at the 2014 NCAA III New England Regional. Saint Anselm College (180) finished a distant third place.
Once again, it was the duo of
Brittney Sorbello and
Tiana Thomas that led the way for the Nor'easters. Sorbello was fourth in the field of 409 runners, completing the course in a time of 18:26. Thomas was just two spots behind in sixth place, clocking a time of 18:29.
Emma Robidoux also recorded a Top 10 performance. She continued her breakout season by finishing 10th with a time of 18:51. UNE's other scoring runners includedÂ
Amanda MacDonald (19th;Â 19:27) and
Angel Waters (34th; 19:54).
Abby Shafer of New England College was the individual winner, crossing the finish line with a time of 18:04.
The Nor'easters, who split their squad today with others competing at the Runnin' Monks Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's College, are back in action next Saturday at the State of Maine Championship.
