Nor'easters drop Roger Williams to go 6-1 in CCC

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The University of New England scored three times and limited Roger Williams University to as many shots in a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey victory on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10) at Bayside Field.

Keeping pace with Salve Regina University atop the CCC standings, the Nor'easters (9-5) now stand at 6-1 in league outings. Big Blue has won each of the six all-time meetings against the Hawks (5-9, 2-5 CCC) by a combined margin of 29-1.

Becky Zakorchemny notched the only marker of the 1st half, just over 10 minutes into the contest. Scoring chance were limited both ways, as a total of seven shots (5-2 UNE) were attempted during the opening period.

Nicole Matarozzo padded the cushion with 10 minutes gone in the 2nd frame, and then Matarozzo found Vonde Saunders in the 65th minute to conclude the day.

Holly Smith stopped the two RWU shots in the initial stanza and that was all, posting her second shutout of the season.

For the Hawks, Mya Lunn made six saves against the UNE attack that fired off a total of 14 shots.

The Nor'easters return to action on Wednesday (6 p.m.) hosting Endicott College (5-2 CCC).
