BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball team finished its historic season as the 20th-ranked team in the country, according to the final
USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The last ranking was announced late Tuesday afternoon (March 25) by Andrea Kane of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The Nor'easters won a school-record 27 games (27-3 record) while capturing their second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship. For the third straight season, UNE advanced to the NCAA III Championship, where this year it defeated New York University in the first round. The Nor'easters suffered a heartbreaking 57-54 second-round overtime loss to Tufts University, which advanced to the Final Four and finished ranked fourth in the nation.
Since the start of the 2010-11 season, only Amherst College (119) has won more games that UNE (98) among NCAA III teams in New England.
