SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- In one of its annual fundraisers, the University of New England Athletics Department hosted 110 players and 28 teams for the 2013 Vaughn Twaddel Golf Classic. The tournament, named in honor of the longtime Westbrook College professor and UNE golf coach, was played Friday (June 14) at Nonesuch River Golf Club.

The field of current faculty and staff, alumni, friends, and supporters of Nor'easter athletics participated in an 18-hole scramble before a BBQ and the presentation of the tournament and raffle prizes.

A highlight of the day was the first hole-in-one in the history of the event, recorded by UNE staff member Leon Paquin with a 4-iron on the par-3 2nd hole.

The group of Steve Cates, Jeff McGown, Brian Moores, and Jeff Hart -- sponsored by Waste Management -- finished with the low gross total of 57 on the par-70 track, edging a pair of other teams by one stroke.

The foursome of Heather Davis, Joe Davis, Patty Williams, and Mike Bohn -- sponsored by Silpada -- came in with the low net score of 41, following a round of 71.
