SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- The University of New England Athletics Department held one of its annual fundraisers on Friday (June 8), as 113 players and 29 teams took to Nonesuch River Golf Club for the 2012 the Vaughn Twaddel Golf Classic. The event is named in honor of the longtime Westbrook College professor and UNE golf coach.

After some early cloud cover, the field -- full of UNE faculty and staff, alumni, friends, and supporters of Nor'easter athletics -- played the majority of the 18-hole scramble under sunny skies before the event concluded with a BBQ and the presentation of the tournament and raffle prizes.

The foursome of Scott Lemelin, Chris King, Brandon Wohl, and Matt Brooks -- sponsored by Advanced Physical Therapy -- fired a 14-under-par round of 56 to capture low gross honors. The low net score was turned in by the team of Anthony Ewing, Glen McCrum, Shawn Berry, and Patrick McCarthy, who shot 58 to wind up with 50 net.
