Knotek garners major honor; Fenner named all-CCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- University of New England men's basketball players Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) have been recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), as the all-CCC teams and major award winners were announced Tuesday morning by league Commissioner Gregg Kaye. Knotek was recognized by the CCC coaches as Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, and Fenner earned a spot on the honorable mention squad.

Knotek is on track to graduate with honors this May, having been a Dean's List student in six of seven semesters at UNE while majoring in marine science. He is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, and well as the conference's all-academic team (2 seasons). His future plans include graduate school and continuing his studies of marine science. On the court, Knotek started in 24 of Big Blue's 25 contests, averaging 7.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per outing this year. He tallied a season-best 18 points in a win over Roger Williams -- a game in which he hit five treys.

Fenner led the Nor'easters in scoring during the season (13.4 ppg), and reached double figures in 11 of the 18 games in which he played. He twice eclipsed the 30-point mark in a game, with a career-high 31 at Curry and 30 at home against Eastern Nazarene. In CCC matches, he ranked 9th in points per game and 4th in steals per game. Additionally, Fenner averaged 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals on the year.
