UNE shoots up to 2nd position in NCAA regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of New England has moved up four spots to the 2nd line in the ranks of the Northeast Region, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Committee. The release of the rankings includes games through February 12.

The NCAA has regional advisory committees that rank the top six teams from eight geographic areas, with the exception of the Northeast, which puts together a list of 10 teams out of the 81 in the region.

Big Blue appeared in the 6th spot a week ago in the initial release of the regional rankings, and now falls behind only Amherst -- which is unbeaten on the year (24-0). The NCAA will make public a third set of rankings next week, and a fourth batch, although not made available to the public, will serve as one of the tools used in selecting teams for participation in the NCAA Championship.

The Nor'easters defeated Endicott on Tuesday night to improve 20-4 on the season and clinch the top seed for the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship with a league mark of 15-2. UNE wraps up the regular-season with Western New England University on Saturday.
