RUTLAND, Vt. -- Eight different players scored for Castleton State College as the hosts blitzed the University of New England with eight goals in the first two periods en route to a 9-1 ECAC East men's ice hockey victory Saturday afternoon at Spartan Arena.

With the win the red-hot Spartans improved to 9-7-5 (7-5-3 ECAC East). Castleton State is 8-1-3 in its last 12 outings. The Nor'easters fell to 2-18 overall, 1-14 in league play.

The Spartans scored four times in both the first and second periods to put the contest out of reach early. Justin Alonzo was the lone multiple-goal scorer for the Spartans, adding a pair of assists to his two-goal performance. Dan Bell had a five-point game with a goal and four assists, while Omar Pacha registered four points with a goal and three helpers.

UNE sophomore defenseman Eric Hines notched his first collegiate goal to account for the Nor'easters' offense.  Junior Mike Roper and first-year Dallas Ungurian split time in goal for the Nor'easters and combined to make 42 stops.

Castleton State held a wide margin (51-23) in shots on goal and converted on 3 of 9 power-play chances.

The Nor'easters return to Biddeford Arena next Friday and Saturday when they host Tufts University and Connecticut College.
