Jess Partlow shattered her own course record to lead UNE to victory

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Sophomore Jess Partlow (Hopkinton, N.H.) broke her own course record to lead the University of New England women's cross country team to a victory at the Blazers Invitational hosted by Elms College.

Partlow posted a time of 19:42 over the five-kilometer course to eclipse the course record (19:48) she established one year ago. The Nor'easters totaled 19 points to run away from Johnson & Wales University, which registered a score of 53.

The Nor'easters placed three other runners in the Top 5. First-year Kim Martins (Newburyport, Mass.) finished third with a time of 20:16. Junior Mary Fehlner (Keene Valley, N.Y.) was fourth at 20:37 and first-year Jen Sweigert (Mohrsville, Pa.) placed fifth with a time of 20:38. Classmate Lindsay Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.) rounded out the Nor'easters' scoring runners with a sixth-place finish (21:03).

UNE will compete in the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College next Saturday (10:45 a.m.).
