UNE golf sixth after first round of State Championship

Senior Nate Fairfield and the Nor'easters will look to chase down the leaders in Round 2 Saturday

VASSALBORO, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team holds the sixth position out of 11 teams after the first round of the Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship, played Friday on the par 72 Tomahawk Course at Natanis Golf Course.

The Nor'easters posted a team total of 345, led by junior Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) and senior Nathan Fairfield (Bath, Maine) with rounds of 84.

Other UNE scores came from sophomore Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) with an 86, junior Steve Dillon (Sanford, Maine) with a 91, and junior Adrian Mendes (Seymour, Conn.) with an even 100.

Husson University finished the day with a team score of 314 and the lead, 15 strokes ahead of second place Bowdoin College (329).

The second and final round will begin Saturday at 10 a.m.
