Johnnie Jefferson and
Quentin Thompson both earned awards from The Commonwealth Coast Conference for the week ending March 1. Jefferson was named TCCC Player of the Week, while Thompson was selected TCCC Rookie of the Week.
Jefferson, a senior forward from Dallas, Texas, averaged 15.7 points and 5.7 rebounds as the Nor'easters won their first TCCC Championship and earned a berth into the NCAA tournament. In Saturday's TCCC Championship game against Colby-Sawyer, Jefferson scored 16 of his 18 points in the second period as UNE erased a one-point halftime deficit for a 90-79 win. For the week, he shot 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the floor and knocked down 9 of 15 attempts from behind the arc. This is the second time Jefferson has received the TCCC Player of the Week honor this season.
Thompson, a guard from Austin, Texas, averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists over the three games of the TCCC tournament. During the week, he connected on 64.3 percent (18-for-28) of his field goal attempts. Thompson tallied a game-high 20 points in the TCCC Championship game win over Colby-Sawyer. Thompson collected four TCCC Rookie of the Week awards this season.
The Nor'easters (24-4) travel to Providence, R.I. Friday for their NCAA tournament opener against Farmingdale State College.
