BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Trailing 2-0 after one period, the University of New England ice hockey team exploded for five goals in the second on its way to a 6-4 victory over Bridgewater State College on Friday evening.

After spotting the host Bears a 2-0 lead, the Nor'easters got their offense cranked up early in the second period.  Todd Bartlett tallied UNE's first goal, then combined with Mike Tiano to set up Chris Bolton, who knotted the game at 1:18.  Tiano -- with the help of Barlett once again -- would score at 6:37 to give UNE a 3-2 cushion.

Bridgewater State tied the game at 3-all before Justin Miner and David Woods notched back-to-back goals less than one minute apart to give the Nor'easters a 5-3 lead after two periods of play.

Woods tacked on an insurance goal in the third period.

Goaltender Mike Roper earned the win with 23 saves for the Nor'easters (11-4-1), who will take their five-game winning streak to Lewiston tomorrow (Feb. 7) for a game with Bates College.
