UNE seeded No. 2 for ECAC Championship; will host USM

Junior Michaela Franey and the second-seeded Nor'easters will host Southern Maine on Wednesday

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England field hockey team's record-breaking season will continue. The Nor'easters learned this afternoon (Nov. 9) they are seeded second for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championship and will host seventh-seeded University of Southern Maine in a quarterfinal-round game Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Other opening-round games feature top-seeded Keene State College hosting No. 8 Plymouth State University, No. 3 Framingham State College entertaining No. 6 and defending champion Endicott College, and No. 4 WPI playing host to No. 5 New England College. The semifinals and finals are slated for Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 14-15) at the site of the highest remaining seed.

UNE heads into the ECAC Championship with a school-record 13 wins against just three losses. The Nor'easters defeated Southern Maine (10-10 overall) 5-1 back on Sept. 1. This is the Nor'easters' first ECAC Championship appearance.

The Nor'easters, who boasted five The Commonwealth Coast Conference first team all-conference selections, are led by TCCC Player of the Year Taryn Flagg. Head coach Joan Howard was chosen TCCC Coach of the Year by her peers.
