WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- With four runners in the top 10, Middlebury College totaled 37 points to win the women's race at the Eastern College Atheltic Conference (ECAC) Championship hosted by Williams College Saturday.
The Panthers had individuals place 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 16th to beat out NESCAC foes Williams College (50) and Amherst College (105). Vassar College (133) and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (177) rounded out the top five in the field of 39 teams.
Vassar junior Johanna Spangler captured the individual title, posting a time of 22:51 on the 6k course. She was four seconds faster than runner-up Sarah Lange of Middlebury, and 20 seconds ahead of Middlebury first-year Steph Moroney.
The University of New England came in 17th as a team with 514 points. Sophomore
Jess Partlow (Hopkinton, N.H.) led the way with a 68th-place showing, crossing the line in 26:07. First-year
Kim Martins (Newburyport, Mass.), junior
Mary Fehlner (Keene Valley, N.Y.), and first-year
Heather Pederson (Woolwich, Maine) all put forth solid efforts, finishing 97th, 100th, and 105th, respectively.
The Nor'easters wrap up their season next Saturday with a short trip to Cumberland, Maine for the NCAA Regional.
