BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Commonwealth Coast Conference Sports Information Coordinator Matt Pettinicchi released the women's basketball preseason poll Friday morning, and the University of New England sits in third place out of 14 teams.
Endicott College received six first-place votes from the league's coaches, and finished atop the poll with 180 points. The Gulls were narrowly ranked ahead of Colby-Sawyer College (178), which collected four first-place votes.
The Nor'easters were projected as favorites by three coaches, and ended up in a close third with 173 total points. UNE is coming off a 2008-09 campaign where it had a 20-8 overall record (12-1 TCCC) and reached the conference semifinals. Big Blue is set to tip-off the season November 15 with a road contest against Saint Joseph's College.
Defending TCCC champion Salve Regina University was tabbed fourth (142), and last year's regular season champion Nichols College (141) rounded out the top five.
