Head coach Kate Roy, assistant coach Cassie Doherty, and 19 members of the University of New England swim team volunteered their time to paint the residents' activity room at Hawthorne House Nursing Home in Freeport on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The swimmers gave more than five hours of their time, painting three offices and the activity room.

"It is important that we give back to the community," Roy said. "We strive for success in the classroom, as well as the swimming pool. We also stress the need to have a positive visible presence in the community, and this project was a way to demonstrate that."
