TCCC Championship: women's soccer seeded No. 2

Victorious in 10 of their last 11, the Nor'easters are hitting their stride at just the right time

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- With an 11-2-0 record in The Commonwealth Conference this season, the University of New England women's soccer team has earned the second seed in the TCCC Championship which begins Saturday. TCCC Commissioner Gregg Kaye made the announcement late last night.

The Nor'easters will face No. 7 Wentworth Institute of Technology (7-6-0 TCCC) in the quarterfinal round Saturday at 1 p.m. UNE defeated the Leopards, 1-0, when the two team met Oct. 17 in Boston.

It is the fifth year in the last six that UNE will make an appearance in the postseason tournament. In 2008 the team made its deepest run during the stretch, falling 3-2 in double overtime to eventual champion Roger Williams University in the semifinals.

Endicott College (12-1-0) clinched the tournament's top seed with a win Tuesday, marking the eighth straight year the Gulls have held the conference's best regular season record.

Also on Saturday, EC plays host to No. 8 Nichols College (7-6-0), Gordon College (8-4-1) and Salve Regina University (8-5-0) face off in the No. 4/5 game, and third seed Roger Williams University (9-3-1) takes on number six Western New England College (7-5-1).
