With a TCCC record above .500 for the first time ever, senior captain Ryan Tarr and the Nor'easters have made big steps in the right direction
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's soccer team will be the No. 8 seed when The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship quarterfinal round begins on Saturday. TCCC Commissioner Gregg Kaye made the announcement late last night.
The Nor'easters (7-6-0 TCCC) finished the regular season tied with Curry College for seventh in the conference standings. Since the Colonels won the Oct. 6 meeting between the two teams, UNE dropped to the eighth spot.
For the third straight season, Western New England College (10-2-1 TCCC) claimed the top seed in the tournament, setting up a rematch of the 2007 quarterfinal that the Golden Bears won, 1-0, by virtue of a UNE own goal.
Yesterday in the regular season finale, the Nor'easters fell to WNEC by a score of 3-0.
Since joining the TCCC in 1999, UNE has made three trips to the playoffs but has not advanced past the first round.
In the other opening round contests, No. 2 Roger Williams University (9-3-1) is set to host Curry (7-6-0), sixth seed Nichols College (8-5-0) travels to No. 3 Wentworth Institute of Technology (9-4-0), and Gordon College (8-5-0) visits Salve Regina University (8-4-1) in the No. 4/5 matchup.
