BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year forward Kevin Tarr (Hermon, Maine) scored with 1:36 remaining in the second overtime period to give the University of New England a thrilling 3-2 win over Roger Williams University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer play Tuesday under the lights.

The victory was the first-ever for the Nor'easters in 11 meetings with the Hawks. UNE improved to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in conference play. The Hawks, who sit atop the TCCC standings with 24 points, fell to 12-5 (8-3 TCCC).

Tarr's game-winner came after the Nor'easters had squandered a two-goal, first-half advantage. He broke in on the left flank and laced a left-footed shot that caromed off the near post across the goal mouth and just inside the right post.

Trailing 2-1 with time winding down in regulation, Roger Williams forced overtime when senior Justin Plourde (Concord, N.H.) put home a rebound of a Daniel Hunter (Middletown, Conn.) shot with 1:20 on the clock.

The Nor'easters got off to a strong start in the early going, scoring twice in the opening 22:12. Sophomore Kiel Hiller (Galloway, N.J.) registered his team-leading eighth goal in the 14th minute, then senior John-Michael Cascio (Topsfield, Mass.) notched his first tally of the season exactly nine minutes later.

The Hawks sliced their deficit in half in the 32nd minute when first-year Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, Conn.) set-up sophomore Liam Isleib (Killingsworth, Conn.).

Junior Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made seven saves for the Nor'easters, who held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots. Roger Williams junior Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) turned aside three UNE shots on goal.

The Nor'easters will look to clinch a playoff spot Saturday when they travel to Nichols College for a 3 p.m. start.

The Hawks hope to snap a two-game losing skid that same day when Curry College heads to Bristol, R.I. for a 12:30 p.m. contest.
