Sarah Richardson (Rochester, N.H.) scored with 1:31 left in regulation off a feed from sophomore
Alice Read (Auburn, Maine) to break a 1-1 tie and give the University of New England a 2-1 win over New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Richardson collected a lead pass from Read behind the Pilgrim defense and netted the game-winner for the Nor'easters (10-1, 7-1 TCCC), who won for the sixth straight outing.
UNE had tied the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute when Richardson assisted senior
Ali Trafton (Manchester, Maine), who put home her sixth goal of the season.
NEC (5-5-2, 3-3-1 TCCC) took an early lead in the 10th minute off the foot of first-year Tamara Comerford (Fremont, N.H.). Junior Colby Grant (Lynn, Mass.) registered an assist on the play.
For the game, the Nor'easters out-shot the Pilgrims by a margin of 22-4, including an 11-0 advantage in the final period.
Senior
Leigh Engel (Richmondville, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for UNE, which travels to Colby-Sawyer College Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. match.
NEC, which hosts Wentworth Institute of Technology Monday, received six saves from senior Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.).
