Junior Matt Veiga offered an impressive fifth-place finish at the James Early Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- University of New England junior Matt Veiga finished fifth out of a field of 253 runners at the James Early Cross Country Invitational hosted by Westfield State College at Stanley Park on Saturday.
Veiga posted a blistering eight-kilometer time of 26:46 to pace the Nor'easters, who were 10th out of 23 teams with a score of 319.
Also scoring for UNE were junior Josh Havelin (77th - 29:21), junior Dan Kelleher (79th - 29:22), sophomore Bosco Oringa (82nd - 29:25) and first-year Tim Denoncour (111th - 30:24).
UMass Dartmouth was the team champion with a score of 72. Westfield State's Jonathan Joyce defended his home course by registering a winning time of 26:22.
The Nor'easters will compete in the Maine Intercollegiate Championship next Saturday.
