HENNIKER, N.H. -- First-year Kevin Tarr (Hermon, Maine) headed home a cross from junior Jason Marks (East Lyme, Conn.) in the 52nd minute to give the University of New England a 1-0 victory over New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, during which the Nor'easters held a 6-0 edge in shots, Tarr got the visitors on the board just over six minutes into the second stanza. The goal ended a UNE scoring drought of more than 370 minutes -- a period spanning across five games.

The Pilgrims nearly found the equalizer in the 69th minute off the foot of first-year Paul McLean (East Hartford, Conn.), but his shot hit the post and bounced out.

With the win, the Nor'easters snapped a three-game losing skid and improved to 8-4 overall (5-3 TCCC).

Junior Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made three saves for UNE, while his counterpart Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) finished with six saves.

NEC, which visits non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College Monday, lost for the third consecutive outing to fall below .500 to 5-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play.

The Nor'easters travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday for a conference match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
