UNE hockey runs string of wins to four by downing BU

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England ice hockey team received goals from four different players and 33 saves from sophomore Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) in a 4-1 win over the Boston University club team Saturday afternoon at Biddeford Arena.

The Nor'easters held BU scoreless for nearly the first two periods while building a 3-0 lead on goals by George Jenkins (Natick, Mass.), Todd Bartlett (Dover, N.H.) and Ted Fabian (Oakland, Maine).

BU got on the scoreboard at 18:53 of the second when McCrea Dunton (Saskatchewan, Canada) broke in on the right and beat Roper glove-side.

Jack Mulvaney (Long Beach, N.Y.) threw in a long-range empty-net goal with just under a minute to play, providing UNE with the final margin of 4-1.

The Nor'easters (9-4-1) held a 45-34 advantage in shots on goal and were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.  They are off until Friday (Jan. 30) when they travel to Brewer to take on the UMaine club team.
