BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England Director of Athletics Kim Allen has announced that Sue Frost has accepted the position of head women's lacrosse coach. She replaces Julie Redman, who resigned following the season to take a similar position at Converse College in Spartansburg, S.C.
Frost comes to UNE after three seasons as the head coach at the University of Southern Maine, where she established the Huskies' career record for victories with 20. Frost was selected 2008 Little East Conference (LEC) Coach of the Year after leading USM to a 5-1 conference record and a berth into the LEC championship game. She brought the past two LEC Rookies of the Year to Southern Maine.
Prior to her stint at Southern Maine, she held head coaching positions at Binghamton University and Wesley College, as well as serving as coach of the club team at Molly College. In total, Frost has seven years of collegiate varsity head coaching experience.
Frost is a 1997 graduate of Marist College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English. She played lacrosse and served as team captain for the NCAA Division I Red Foxes. Frost is a native of Bethpage on Long Island, N.Y.
Allen feels Frost will transform the Nor'easters into one of the premier lacrosse programs in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
“Sue is a person with a true passion for the sport of lacrosse,” Allen said. “She is a student of the game – someone who is constantly seeking opportunities to improve her base of knowledge. With seven years experience as a head coach, Sue has been able to establish recruiting contacts that will enable our program to excel in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.”
Frost, who will start August 11, is looking forward to the move to UNE.
“I am really excited about this opportunity,” commented Frost. “UNE is a great school with an outstanding reputation. I am looking forward to getting to the top of the conference and developing a long-standing program.”
The Nor'easters had a 7-10 record in 2008, losing to Roger Williams University in the opening round of the conference tournament. UNE graduated five seniors, including the program's all-time leading scorer—Ashley MacDonald.
