BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced its all-conference softball team and major award winners Thursday morning, and University of New England left fielder Lisa Baillargeon '08 (Berlin, N.H.) earned first team honors for the Nor'easters, who placed four players on the all-conference team.
Joining Baillargeon as all-conference picks are second-team selections Katie Morin '08 (Lewiston, Maine) and Sarah Hamel '08 (Rochester, N.H.), as well as honorable mention choice Jennifer Waldecker '10 (Hooksett, N.H.).
Baillargeon, a three-time all-conference selection, heads into the TCCC Tournament with a .393 batting average and 28 runs scored. She leads the Nor'easters in hits (44), extra-base hits (15), slugging percentage (.598), on-base percentage (.493) and is tied for first in stolen bases (7). Defensively, Baillargeon has committed just one error in 29 total chances.
Morin earned her fourth straight all-conference award on the strength of a .355 batting average and 23 runs batted in. She has a team-best eight doubles and is 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts. Morin has made numerous spectacular plays at shortstop, and has been charged with just 10 errors in 31 games to this point.
A pitcher, Hamel is a second team choice for the second consecutive season after compiling a 12-6 record and 1.80 earned run average. She has struck out 123 batters in 128.1 innings of work, while holding opponents' hitters to a .230 average. At the plate Hamel leads the Nor'easters in batting average (.397) and runs batted in (24) and is second in slugging percentage (.574).
Waldecker, a designated player, batted .298 in 18 games during her first collegiate season. She had 17 hits, nine runs scored and eight RBI.
The Nor'easters are seeded fourth for the TCCC Tournament and will play No. 8 Gordon College in a second-round game today (May 1).
