BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's lacrosse program will be hosting "Lax-4-Life" -- a charity invitational to raise money for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital -- on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Deering High School's Memorial Field in Portland.
The Nor'easters will be hosting St. Joseph's, Thomas College and the University of Southern Maine in the event, which starts at 3:00 p.m. Each team will play two games.
University of New England head coach Jon Hunt is excited about the event. ""We are honored to be given the opportunity to host this event again," said Hunt. "The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital is such a wonderful facility that provides patients the very best care. This charity tournament provides our student-athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills while appreciating and helping a greater cause."
From state-of-the-art equipment and specialty programs to spacious play areas, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center is Maine's only certified children's hospital designed with children in mind. Young patients and their families visit The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital more than 45,000 times per year. They come from every county in Maine and New Hampshire, 37 other states, and 10 countries. Included in that number are nearly 8,000 children who are served through outpatient clinics and 2,500 babies who are born there or come to the emergency department when a sudden illness or injury arises.
Donations for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital will be accepted at the gate. One year ago, the event raised more than $2,000, and the Nor'easters hope to eclipse that mark at this year's tournament.
